Paul “Hyper” Kontopanagiotis is a 21-year-old Greek/American Rainbow Six Siege player who has been playing for DarkZero Esports since May 2019. On the other hand, Brandon “BC” Carr has been representing the organization for over three years.

DarkZero Esports managed to find a spot in Six Mexico Major 2021, and they even qualified for the playoffs. Before their match against Team oNe started, it was announced that both Hyper and BC tested positive for coronavirus.

Later on, Ubisoft as well as DarkZero Esports announced that all the necessary protocols were followed after the test result. Due to the positive COVID-19 cases, DarkZero had to play their match against Team oNe at their hotel rooms.

Unfortunately for DarkZero Esports, they couldn’t stand against the Brazilian roster while playing from the hotel rooms as they lost both Villa and Chalet maps and their journey ended in Mexico.

“Today we share the unfortunate news that BC and Hyper, two members of our Rainbow 6 team, have tested positive for COVID-1 9 while competing at the Six Mexico Major,” DarkZero Esports announced. “All other players and staff have tested negative.”

“Both BC and Hyper have communicated to us that not only do they feel well enough to play, they are committed to leading their team to victory. After much consideration and collaboration with our partners at Ubisoft, the team will continue to compete against Team One today as planned, from the safety of their individual hotel rooms.”

Hyper about his COVID-19 test result:

“I am one of the players affected, took 3 covid tests before I flew out here and tested negative. Always wore my mask and barely had any contact with any of the players here. Unfortunate circumstance just hope that all the other teams are safe.”
