Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev is one of the first players in CS:GO that people think when they hear about the game. Since 2016, he has been outperforming almost every individual with a huge consistency.

Even though s1mple is considered as the best player CS:GO ever witnessed and he had been playing tremendously, Natus Vincere had been underperforming in the tournaments for years, especially after 2018.

As we moved to the online era of Counter-Strike due to the coronavirus outbreak, s1mple and his colleagues started to build up the chemistry with their new young prodigy, Valerii “b1t” Vakhovskyi, who joined in the end of 2020.

This new roster of Natus Vincere was looking much better with the new lineup, and they started to deliver in May. They won DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 and StarLadder CIS RMR 2021 as well as reaching to the finals of BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2021.

For most of the time, it was happened due to the ambition of s1mple to become the best. For the last six months, s1mple was holding a 1.35 rating across all the tournaments and matches.

s1mple outperforms ZywOo in the statistics as well as their match against Team Vitality

However, they needed to show their true power in the first LAN event we saw after the coronavirus pandemic, IEM Cologne 2021. In the tournament, NaVi didn’t lose any single series to win the trophy.

First, they passed through Renegades, Team Vitality, and Astralis in the group stage. Then, they faced FaZe Clan in the semifinals who beat all the expectations in the tournament. But, the CIS team managed to overcome the international roster of FaZe.

In the final match, Natus Vincere met G2 Esports, which is one of the top performers in Cologne alongside FaZe. However, it was pretty easy for NaVi to take down G2 Esports as they win the tournament with a clean sweep.

Throughout the tournament, s1mple played with a 1.51 rating, which is one of the most absurd numbers we saw for a while now. As he carried Natus Vincere to the trophy, s1mple also become the Most Valuable Player of IEM Cologne 2021.
