Alex “ALEX” McMeekin is a 24-year-old British CS:GO player who has been playing for Team Vitality since December 2018. In March 2020, he decided to bench himself due to the burnout problems.

ALEX took to his official Twitter account to say goodbye to Team Vitality and the players/staff members in the organization.

In the post, ALEX pointed out the times when they were playing at the top level and showed his gratitude for all the members of the team. Also, he made a special goodbye to the coach of the team, Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam, and stated that he is the one who taught him so much during his time in the team.

Furthermore, ALEX spoke in the interview with Duncan “Thorin” Shields recently and mentioned that he wants to play in the Flashpoint event, which is the event that Cloud9 also participating. After announcing his departure, Cloud9’s new general manager Henry “HenryG” Greer replied to him.

HenryG said in the tweet that ALEX has made the best decision about his career and future with leaving Team Vitality, and this reply might be the biggest clue about British in-game leader’s new team.

Here is what ALEX wrote:

“As of today, I’m no longer part of Team Vitality. It has been an incredible ride, from finding out I’ll be playing for Vitality while boarding a plane to the Caribbean for Christmas to taking over the IGL role, making 11 straight playoffs, 6 finals & 4 trophies.

I would like to thank Vitality for always making sure we had what we needed in order to succeed, for always supporting us no matter what time of day, i’ve seen videos of them watching us play in the offices and believe me it’s an incredible thing for a player to feel like they have a family behind them at all times.

Thank you Nicolas, Fabien, Caro, Flo, Arnaud, Mickaël, Gwendoline, Bastien, Theo, FX, Félix, Jason, Chris, Julien, Sine, Laurie, Claire, Sylvain, Angeline, Laura, i’m sorry if I forgot anyone.”

ALEX continued:

“I’d also like to thank all of my teammates & staff members : Dan, Mathieu, Céd, Richard, Nathan, Alexandre & Matthieu for allowing me to grow as a player & a person, for trusting and believing in me during the hard times at the start and especially for all the good memories along the way.

To the last Mathieu (MaT), I wish you all the success in the world, i’m sorry we couldn’t work together for longer, you’re an incredible person, and you’re doing an incredible job for the team, I can’t wait to see all of you when it’s safe to go back to events!

The person who taught me the most is Rémy, he is an incredible coach, an incredible person and a good friend. Who would’ve thought when we first met all those years ago, that one day we would be standing side by side on the biggest stages the world has to offer. I wish you, your wife & beautiful son nothing but the best now, and for the rest of your lives.

A special thanks to all of Vitality’s supporters, an incredible bunch of truly passionate people, who were willing to travel 24 hours to come see us play one game, they were with us through thick & thin, always sending me messages whether we won or lost and i’m grateful for all of that. I will be a Vitality Ultra forever.”

HenryG replied:

“On wards and upwards, brother. I have no doubt that you’ve made the absolute best decision regarding your future!”
